Dawn Harris who lives with her six year old daughter Emerson in Los Angeles has written to her senator to urge that she opposes President Trump’s appointment of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of State for Health and new Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
DeVos appeared not to know what the IDEA federal law was (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act). The IDEA federal law ensures services to children in the U.S. with disabilities.
A petition against Trump’s appointed Secretary for Health – which will be delivered to the U.S. Senate – was started on Change.org and has grown steadily, spiking in traffic on Tuesday where it jumped from 12,000 petitioners to more than 109,000 in less than 19 hours.
Dawn Harris writes in her blog on The Mighty she thinks both the two new American members of the cabinet would be an extreme detriment to the civil rights of students with disabilities and other marginalized populations who need federal laws and strong advocates protecting them.
She also makes the plea to ensure to her local senator that their healthcare coverage won’t be denied due to Emerson’s pre-existing condition and that they won’t have to worry about lifetime maximums.
President Trump immediately began the process of dismantling the so-called Obama care. That was health care provided for those on low income within President Obama’s term of office.
