Bilbo Baggins won first place in a ‘Pets as therapy’ section at the British national dog show.

Bilbo had been taken by his owner to visit the children at Cherry Trees, a centre for young people with physical and learning difficulties.

Bilbo from Ashtead in Surrey is exceptionally good with the young and the old – and a year-long study by PAT found youngsters with special needs are just one of the groups who benefit from doggy time.

The cockapoo’s featured on page 3 of this month’s Waitrose magazine with Philippa Cadge and Hilife Pets as Therapy and Ryan’s grandparents have given permission to publish the main picture.
