‘Don’t bring Lulu’ co-authors were invited to a swish Christmas party on Friday, December 15th 1967.


The invitation was extended to Ron and Doris Onions by the BBC’s Leonard Miall who had the grand title of Representative in the United States.

The address – 630 Fifth Avenue, otherwise known as the Rockefeller Centre where the BBC office was then based.

It was the Onions’s first taste of the strength of alcoholic refreshments in the Big Apple.

They had arrived in NYC at the end of November with their daughters Sarah and Louise (Lulu) ready for Ron’s new job as the first News Organiser for the BBC in Manhattan.
