Ron and Doris Onions got married in September 1952. Wartime rationing was still in place so the bride wore a fashionable shorter skirt and capped sleeves.
Years later when Ron was working in the Rockerfeller Centre in New York for the BBC, he sent Doris a telegram on their anniversary.
His childhood sweetheart and their elder daughter Sarah were on holiday in Ogunquit,Maine – which is native American for beautiful place by the sea.
