LBC balloonJournalist Ron Onions joined the board of London’s commercial radio station in 1980. By this stage he held the post of editorial director and LBC was based in Gough Square behind Fleet Street. Among the congratulatory letters he received were a letter from the General Manager and Chief Executive of The Press Association which was based then in Fleet Street. There was also a letter from the MD of BRMB radio in Birmingham, David Pinnell.  At this point Ron had been working in an editorial position at LBC and IRN (the linked syndicated news service) for seven years.

The station had achieved a listening figure of more than two million and won awards for its journalists Malcolm Brabant and Peter Deeley and for the presenters of LBC’s AM show Bob Holness and Douglas Cameron.
