This month marks the fortieth anniversary of Britain’s first two official commercial radio stations.

Ron Onions – one of the co-authors of ‘Don’t Bring Lulu’ was the head of news at Capital Radio which was then based in Euston Tower.

A year later he had joined LBC as editor which led to a busy ten years developing the sound of LBC and building the credibility of IRN.

Journalists including Jon Snow gathered on the 8th of October in London near Fleet Street to mark the occasion.

Ron’s daughter Sarah and his granddaughter Lucy attended the party – other star guests included LBC presenters Douglas Cameron (who used to co-present the AM show with Bob Holness) and, Brian Hayes, the assertive phone-in host.
