LBC became known as a broadcasting institution which employed and encouraged women presenters and journalists and engineers.
When the then broadcasting regulator the IBA (Independent Broadcasting Authority) sent Lady Plowden on a visit to the station she was able to meet regular on-air voices such as Susannah Simons and Terese Birch.
Ron Onions who was editorial director of LBC and Independent Radio News at that point took an enlightened view of the employment of women – as academic and journalist Tim Crook wrote in his assessment of the significance of Ron's work in commercial radio. You can seen Tim’s work at
