Thatcher’s acknowledgement of local radio.

The former prime minister backed the development of local radio during her premiership. She sent a special message to a tenth anniversary dinner of a gathering of the key figures of Independent Local Radio in 1983.

Mrs Thatcher said she was a radio fan and stated that local radio can do much to sustain and enliven the communities it serves.

At that stage, there were 42 ILR (Independent Local Radio) stations broadcasting throughout the United Kingdom – now there are more than 200.Thatch with cans
